Baby boomers are a unique generation, which is why there is search engine optimization tips (SEO tips) designed specifically to help a baby boomer break into the internet scene. Get things right, and a baby boomer will be able to create passive income that works even for retirement.

This is especially important, since search engines are the primary method of finding anything on the internet these days.

So without further ado, here are some search engine optimization tips to help all you baby boomers out there get some extra exposure for your website.

Do Your SEO By The Book

SEOThe first thing you should remember is that SEO is a means to an end.

There are less legitimate methods of making it to the top of the search engine ladder. Some search engine optimization tips focus on exploiting these methods.
This approach will not work for the long run, however.

The problem with these methods is that they leave a bad impression on the readers and the search engine. You could get yourself blacklisted from the search engines, which is something you do not want to happen.

This is why one of the first search engine optimization tips you should remember is to do things by the book. This will allow your website to actually profit in the long run and will be more easily trusted by visitors – who will be primarily responsible for your site’s profitability.

Learn Basic HTML Coding And Scripting

This is one of the most overlooked search engine optimization tips, and one that costs people big money in the long run.

Coding and scripting are the commands that build your website from the ground up. You must have at least a basic understanding of it all if you want to fix problems and modify your website on the go.

You could just hire a programmer to handle this for you. This is not, however, one of the more advisable search engine optimization tips.

You will have to turn to your programmer for every little detail in your website. This will greatly increase your expenses in the long run, which is why it is worth it to learn basic HTML coding and scripting.

Understand How To Use Keywords

KeywordsKeywords are the lifeblood of SEO, and properly using them is one of the most important search engine optimization tips out there.

First off, you should select keywords that are actually related to the content of your website. Sum up your website’s purpose in one or two words and you have your basic keywords. You can then add more diverse words to these basic keywords to reach out to a wider audience.

Other related search engine optimization tips include the strategic placement of these keywords around your website. Spread them out in the content while emphasizing them on titles, headers and buttons for maximum effect.

Consider Hiring A SEO Specialist

This may not be one of the cheapest search engine optimization tips out there, but a SEO specialist will help you solve your bigger SEO problems. Hire one when you are starting out or when you come across major hurdles in website performance.

  1. Hi Gee:

Excellent article about search engine optimization tips. One idea I like to mention is the importance of keywords in the domain name. For example, if I was setting up a new blog or website and decide one of my keywords was “traveling with grand kids” I’d definitely try to have those words in my domain name. It certainly makes getting a good ranking in google much easier.

Great info! Another interesting article I read recently was the importance of website design for baby boomer web surfers and shoppers.

So many companies and web designers seem to forget that not all web shoppers out there are 20 and 30-somethings. Simple things such as font size, color contrast and layout can easily make or break your website for the baby boomer crowd, and everyone else for that matter. One example of a website that has clearly taken these things into consideration is 55Places.com. Here you’ll find a nice sized font, a crisp white background with black text, nice red accents and good sized, colorful photography. Plus, it’s easy to navigate with clearly labeled links. 55Places.com is a great website for Baby Boomers researching Active Adult communities across the country … large font and all!

    Hi Gee,

Agree with you about ensuring you have a basic level of HTML competency. It saves you so much trouble. Often you will find that a colour, margin or size is not quite right. Being able to interpret HTML gives you the ability to make these changes in seconds, rather than playing round for hours.

      Yes David

I found by using a free HTML editor like Kompozer made the learning process very quick as you are able to flick between the normal view and HTML view to see the coding

    Hi Gee

Thanks for the easy-to-follow SEO explanation and helpful tips. Just on the HTML coding and scripting, what kind of basics do you recommend one should be familiar with?

      Hi Lina

The best initial ones would be meta tags, header tags, bolding etc. The easiest way to learn would be to do a post on Wordpress using the tools included. Then in the editor change to the HTML view where you will see the codes. I would then copy each piece of code with an explanation of each into a document you could refer to. Bit like a cheat sheet.
